There has been a lot of talk lately about how apple cider vinegar can help you lose weight. But is it true? Can including this simple condiment in with more of your meals help you shed pounds and fight the battle of the bulge?
Even though it’s been thought that apple cider vinegar has helped with weight loss for many years, it was only in 2005 that scientific evidence came to light. One study involved twelve participants who each took apple cider vinegar along with some water and a piece of white bread. After the study, the participants who took the apple cider vinegar showed significantly lower levels of blood glucose. Lowering the levels of sugar in the blood keeps the sugar from turning to fat, which is then stored in your body and makes you gain weight.
However, because apple cider vinegar has gained such popularity as a weight loss method, there have been many supplements that have come out onto the market. But it’s very important to be careful when taking these kinds of supplements. The first reason is because these supplements can have very high acid contents and when taken, they can actually burn the esophagus. Also, when apple cider vinegar is taken over a prolonged period of time, it can significantly decrease the potassium levels in the body and even lower bone density.
Apple cider vinegar can definitely be an aid if you are trying to lose weight. But it’s also important to realize that you won’t lose weight by only using apple cider vinegar. A proper diet and exercise cannot be stressed enough and, if you feel as though you need to use a supplement, there are definitely better ones out there that will do the job much better.
